Ammonium polyphosphate (APP), phase II

Original: Decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE)

Proposed offset: Ammonium polyphosphate (APP), phase II

Use: Reformulated intumescent coating / textile flame-retardant systems using a suitable documented APP grade

Claim to investigate: APP is a phosphorus/nitrogen route assessed among decaBDE alternatives; phase-II APP can supply acid in an intumescent system.

Limits: The mechanism requires a compatible binder, carbon donor and blowing agent; it is not an equal-dose drop-in replacement for decaBDE. Water-based textile use requires an appropriate modified or encapsulated grade; do not transfer AP862 claims to generic APP or AP422. Current exact-grade regional SDS review is required. A July 2025 AP422 SDS lists H351/H361f, so historical alternative status does not establish a blanket lower-hazard conclusion. Verify wash durability, water resistance, smoke and fire performance in the finished article.

Core data coverage: 18.75%

3 of 16 defined fields are recorded with a source. This measures structured information currently on this site, not the completeness of every linked PDF. Missing fields remain in the denominator.

Coverage is separate from scientific accuracy, human verification and EcoSafe assessment. Molecular fields may not apply to a grade or family; they are not filled from another material to increase its score.
