EcoSafe: Not assessed. Inclusion in the library does not indicate safety or environmental approval. This substance record does not replace a current, region-specific SDS for the exact supplier product.

Core data coverage: 68.75%

11 of 16 defined fields are recorded with a source. This measures structured information currently on this site, not the completeness of every linked PDF. Missing fields remain in the denominator.

Coverage is separate from scientific accuracy, human verification and EcoSafe assessment. Molecular fields may not apply to a grade or family; they are not filled from another material to increase its score.

Properties and formulation role

IPDI is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid. Its two isocyanate groups participate in polyurethane chemistry. Evonik describes uses in coating resins, prepolymers, polyurethane dispersions and adhesive systems. Performance depends on the co-reactants and finished formulation.

The following are supplier-specific examples from Evonik’s VESTANAT® IPDI US-origin TDS, dated September 9, 2025; they are not universal specifications for every IPDI supply.

Hazards and handling evidence

IPDI is a reactive isocyanate. Consult the exact product SDS for inhalation, skin and eye hazards, sensitization, moisture reactivity, storage and protective measures. Water insolubility does not imply an absence of reaction with water. This profile provides no handling, synthesis or disposal procedure.

Documents and origin

TDS: linked above for the VESTANAT IPDI US-origin example. SDS: a current matching manufacturer SDS has not yet been linked; obtain it from the supplier. This record does not yet meet our complete SDS/TDS milestone.

Origin: Evonik’s cited TDS explicitly identifies its example as US origin. This does not establish the origin of all IPDI, another supplier’s material or a purchased lot. Feedstock origin and manufacturing site have not been verified here.
