Human verification concerns the stated information and scope. It is separate from an EcoSafe score, certification or safety approval. Overview
n-Butanol, or butan-1-ol, is a straight-chain four-carbon alcohol used as a solvent and a chemical building block. It helps control flow and drying in coatings and is converted into butyl acrylate, butyl acetate and glycol ethers used in downstream formulations. The technical values below refer to the supplied OXEA industrial product, with its U.S.-manufactured sales specification kept separate from the European specification.

Uses
n-Butanol works directly as a solvent in coatings and adhesives, and as an intermediate for butyl acrylate, butyl acetate and glycol ethers. These derivatives support resin, paint, ink and cleaning formulations. Amino-resin manufacture and flow/leveling control are additional producer-documented uses; they do not establish that every grade is suitable for food, pharmaceutical or personal-care applications.
Industry & market uses
Relevant application markets include architectural and industrial coatings, automotive finishes, wood coatings, printing inks, adhesives, cleaning products and chemical intermediates. These are use categories, not a ranked market-share estimate. No revenue, growth or global production figures are adopted from market-report previews.
Is it considered green?
n-Butanol is not automatically renewable or environmentally preferable. OXEA describes its oxo-alcohol route using olefins and synthesis gas, while the JRC documents biomass-fermentation routes for n-butanol. The supplied SDS reports 92% biodegradation in 15 days in a sewage/BOD test; biodegradation does not remove its fire, eye and exposure hazards. A greener-product claim needs grade-specific feedstock and lifecycle evidence, solvent recovery and an application comparison.
Supplier-grade safety context

- Compare the U.S. and European sales specifications before selecting a supplier grade; limits differ.
- U.S. assay ≥99.8 wt% is calculated by difference, not direct GC area%.
- SDS pour point below −90°C must not be displayed as a measured melting point.
- Density/relative-density units are absent from the SDS table; retain as an explicit gap.
- Kinematic viscosity 3.638 mm²/s must not be labeled dynamic viscosity in mPa·s.
- No product-specific renewable-content or lifecycle certification was supplied.
- No human verification or EcoSafe score assigned.

Technical properties
OXEA n-Butanol industrial product 10420; U.S.-manufactured specification product 50000476. SDS physical-property references are distinguished from release specifications. Decimal commas are normalized to decimal points. The SDS reports a pour point below −90°C, not a measured melting point. Its density/relative-density table shows 0.81 at 20°C without stating a density unit; no g/cm³ value is inferred.
