Scope: Chemical identity, supplied Wako SDS and specification matches, sourced technical-property transcription and conditions, and the reviewed application and grade-specific sustainability context.
Owner explicitly approved the reviewed record for publication. Core data coverage remains 15/16; melting point and manufacturing origin remain unverified. Green certifications remain supplier claims, not independently validated certifications. Neutral remains a provisional owner-assigned category; this mark is not a safety or regulatory approval.
Human verification concerns the stated information and scope. It is separate from an EcoSafe score, certification or safety approval. Overview
1,2-Hexanediol is a diol with adjacent hydroxyl groups. Supplier-described cosmetic functions include moisturizing, solubilizing and product-protection enhancement. Skin-care and hair-care applications depend on the grade and finished formulation. The supplied FUJIFILM Wako reagent is for research use only, separate from cosmetic supplier grades.

Markets & applications
Cosmetics and personal care are the main documented application context here. COSMILE Europe lists skin-conditioning and solvent functions. Symrise describes moisturizing, solubilizing, sensory and emulsion-stabilizing benefits for its named grade, alongside support for product protection.
Supplier examples include creams, lotions, serums and gels, plus shampoos, conditioners and leave-in treatments. Moisturizing and preservative-enhancing claims are formulation-dependent. Product-protection support does not establish that an ingredient alone is an authorized preservative or a complete preservation system; verify finished-product microbial performance.

Market estimates and other sectors still needing evidence
The supplied market reports give substantially different estimates. Comparable scope and production data have not been established, so no market value, market share or growth forecast is adopted. Food-preservative authorization, drug-formulation suitability and claimed leadership of named manufacturers have not been confirmed. Research reagent availability does not establish a pharmaceutical, food or cosmetic grade.
Supplied grade & specification
FUJIFILM Wako 1,2-Hexanediol · code 085-07432 · supplier-listed 25 mL package. The specification gives assay ≥96.0% by capillary GC and specific optical rotation −0.3 to +0.3° at 20 °C, sodium D line, neat.
Specification revision: May 29, 2023. The separate printed header reads November 3, 2026, one day after this review; it is not substituted for the revision date. These are grade limits, not lot-specific test results. The SDS recommends research use only.

Safety & formulation context
The supplied Wako SDS, revision 2.04 issued February 26, 2026, classifies the reagent as eye irritation Category 2A, with Warning and H319. Avoid eye exposure and use the protective equipment, ventilation and first-aid measures specified in the complete SDS.
A published 2012 CIR assessment concluded that the reviewed 1,2-glycols, including 1,2-hexanediol, were safe under the cosmetic uses and concentrations evaluated in that report. It also discussed penetration enhancement and the effect on other formula ingredients. This historical assessment does not establish that every concentration, raw reagent or finished formulation is safe, or that it cannot cause individual reactions.

Handling, storage and evidence gaps
Keep tightly closed, protected from light and in a well-ventilated place at room temperature, preferably cool. Avoid strong oxidizers, ignition sources and temperature extremes. The SDS reports transport as not regulated under ADR/RID, IMDG and IATA; this is separate from eye-irritation hazards.
The supplied SDS provides no ecological toxicity, persistence/degradation or bioaccumulation data. It also leaves melting point and viscosity unreported. Missing data are not proof of absence of risk.
Sustainability & green grades
The chemical name alone does not establish renewable sourcing or a lower environmental footprint. Symrise describes Hydrolite® 6 green as based on sustainably sourced raw materials. Cozmat states that Hanaco® Hexiol Green has 100% biobased carbon by ASTM D6866 and COSMOS Approved status. These are supplier statements for named offerings; current certificates and scope still require review.
Biobased carbon is a feedstock measure, not proof of harmlessness, ready biodegradability or a lower lifecycle footprint. No bio-based or eco-certification claim is transferred to the Wako reagent.
Related blend and green-claim checks
SymDiol® 68 green combines 1,2-hexanediol with caprylyl glycol. It is a blend, not another name for the single-substance record on this page. Its composition, technical properties and certifications must be checked separately.
Symrise blend description ↗- Request current renewable-carbon test and certification documents for the exact supplier grade.

Human review checklist
Dave approved this record on November 2, 2026. The human-verification mark covers the stated information and document matches; missing fields, supplier claims and the provisional EcoSafe category retain their qualifications.
- Identity: CAS 6920-22-5, formula C6H14O2 and molecular weight 118.17; distinct from 1,6-hexanediol.
- Document match: Wako code 085-07432, SDS revision 2.04 and specification revision May 29, 2023.
- Technical values: confirm the source pages, conditions and specification versus reference basis.
- Markets and green claims: confirm the grade-specific sources and retained uncertainty.
- Assessment: Neutral is provisional and separate from evidence verification.
Core data coverage: 93.75%
15 of 16 defined fields are recorded with a source. This measures structured information currently on this site, not the completeness of every linked PDF. Missing fields remain in the denominator.
Coverage is separate from scientific accuracy, human verification and EcoSafe assessment. Molecular fields may not apply to a grade or family; they are not filled from another material to increase its score.
